# Payment terms

> Shipping payment term options in ShipPeek.

Payment terms define who pays for the shipment and when. These are returned in the `paymentTerms` field of rate responses.

## Available terms

| Term                  | Description                                       |
| --------------------- | ------------------------------------------------- |
| `Outbound Prepaid`    | Shipper pays. Most common for outbound shipments. |
| `Outbound Collect`    | Receiver pays on delivery.                        |
| `Inbound Collect`     | Receiver pays for inbound shipments.              |
| `Third Party Prepaid` | A third party pays in advance.                    |
| `Third Party Collect` | A third party pays on delivery.                   |

## Default behavior

Most rate requests default to `Outbound Prepaid` unless your account is configured otherwise.
